Red cherry, strawberry, lavender, bergamot, and schist-marked tannin in a bright, airy frame.
Alkina’s exact 2022 Kin Grenache earned 93 points from both James Halliday and James Suckling. The fruit comes from Blocks 18 and 22, is farmed organically and biodynamically, hand picked, fermented as 100% whole bunches, and matured for six months in concrete and stainless steel. Four reasons this Grenache deserves the six
The dual reviews get attention. The parcel geology, whole-bunch method, cool vintage, and price explain why this is one of the sharper contemporary Grenache buys.

Two exact-vintage 93s
James Halliday and James Suckling independently recognized the 2022 for perfume, red fruit, spice, energy, and precise tannin.
Geology you can taste
Block 18 sits over schist and clay; elevated Block 22 carries quartzite and limestone seams along the hill’s contours.
Whole-bunch freshness
Four parcels were fermented separately as 100% whole bunches, preserving floral lift, savory complexity, and tactile grip.
A serious everyday price
At $19, the bottle sits $10 below the supplied Wine-Searcher average and $41 below the supplied winery price.
Two 93-point views of the same wine
Halliday emphasizes its bright, joyful perfume and savory exit; Suckling focuses on its schist-marked tannin and contemporary Australian Grenache identity.

Secure Your AllocationRed fruit, flowers, herbs, and chalky grip
Light on its feet but not simple: this Grenache layers perfume and fruit over a distinctly mineral, savory frame.

Alkina describes 2022 as cool but compressed, with delayed growth followed by mild, slow-ripening conditions and a final warm spell. Yields landed in the desired range and fruit quality was excellent, producing complex flavors and slightly lower acidity.
Fresh strawberry, red cherry, blood plum, and red licorice carry the center.
Lavender, purple flowers, bergamot, and dried-flower lift make the nose immediately expressive.
Dried thyme, campfire, earth, and cool mineral tones keep the fruit grounded.
Chewy, chalky tannins feel gritty and precise rather than heavy.
Pour slightly cool at 58–62°F in a generous Burgundy stem.
Give it 15–25 minutes of air if opening now.
Strawberry, cherry, lavender, and bright spice lead.
Dried thyme, earth, and schist-like mineral grip become more defined.
The fruit softens into plum and red licorice while the tannins stay precise.
Four parcels, whole bunches, concrete
The cellar work is designed to preserve the shape of each parcel rather than cover it with new oak.

The fruit: Blocks 18 and 22 were both planted in 2016. Block 18 carries schist and clay; Block 22 is elevated, bush-trained along the contours, and marked by quartzite and limestone seams.
The fermentation: Hand-picked fruit was divided into four separate parcels and fermented as 100% whole bunches. Three ferments were in concrete and one in stainless steel, with roughly three weeks on skins.
The maturation: After basket pressing, most wine returned to concrete, with one smaller parcel in steel. Six months of maturation preserved freshness before blending and bottling.
A new story on an old Barossa place
Alkina combines historic vines and Indigenous respect with a modern commitment to geology, biodiversity, and regenerative farming.

Alkina’s certified organic and biodynamic farm sits on the traditional lands of the Ngadjuri people. The estate describes its purpose as understanding, nurturing, and expressing the land through wine and regenerative farming.
The property includes 43 hectares of Grenache, Shiraz, Mataro, and Semillon, with the oldest vines dating to the 1950s. Detailed soil mapping lets the team work at a parcel scale unusual even in Barossa.
The Kin label gives the winery room to explore new parcels and ideas each vintage. For the 2022 Grenache, artist and designer Damian Hamilton created the label artwork, extending the wine’s contemporary identity from vineyard to bottle.
Two aromatic pairings for modern Grenache
Warm Moroccan spice highlights the fruit and florals; roasted eggplant and spiced beef draw out its earthy, mineral side.
This Grenache likes fragrant spice, roasted vegetables, herbs, and moderate richness—food with flavor, not brute weight.
Serve slightly cool at 58–62°F and give it 15–25 minutes of air. The cooler temperature preserves its floral lift beside aromatic dishes.
Moroccan Chicken Tagine with Apricots and Chickpeas
Cinnamon, ginger, turmeric, apricot, and tender chicken mirror the wine’s perfume, red fruit, and warm spice without overwhelming its airy frame.
Why it works: Apricot and spice amplify Grenache’s fruit and florals, while bright acidity keeps the slow braise fresh.

Turkish Stuffed Eggplant with Spiced Beef and Tomato
Roasted eggplant, tomato, herbs, and seasoned beef meet the wine’s savory earth, red fruit, and chewy tannin.
Why it works: Eggplant echoes the mineral, smoky side; tomato lifts the acidity; beef gives the tannins a gentle anchor.

This is the bottle for anyone who wants Barossa perfume and texture without the weight, sweetness, or obvious oak of the old stereotype.
Tagine, stuffed eggplant, roast chicken, lamb, tomato braises, and herb-rich dishes all suit its aromatic energy.
Whole bunches, concrete, and parcel geology turn Grenache into something floral, savory, and precise.
At $114, six bottles leave room to open, share, gift, and revisit the wine across different meals.
