Rutherford bench Cabernet, and the estate fruit around it

The 2022 is 65 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 14 percent Malbec, 10 percent Petit Verdot, 6 percent Merlot, and 5 percent Cabernet Franc. About half the Cabernet is western Rutherford bench. The rest comes from Calistoga, Howell Mountain, and St. Helena. Cabernet Franc comes from Howell Mountain, and the Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Malbec come from estate vineyards in Calistoga, Knights Valley, Rutherford, and Yountville.
It spent 20 months in French oak, 60 percent of it new. If Rutherford bench Cabernet is the backbone you want in a Napa blend, what is still holding the cork in?

94, with energizing tannins

James Suckling called the 2022 structured, spicy, and full, with generous fruit flavors and energizing tannins.
He wrote that the Malbec and Petit Verdot supply an extra structural spine and a nutty, toasty character. Drink it now, or hold it.
Rutherford dust, then a long finish

Blackberry, plum, and cassis sit with warm baking spices, toast, and a touch of nuttiness from the new oak. A lift of acidity keeps the wine food-friendly against the tannins.
Under the fruit, Beaulieu tastes Rutherford dust and the tension of mountain fruit. The wine is dry and full, with spice, polished structure, and a long energetic finish.

A warm dry winter, then twenty months in oak
Trevor Durling is chief winemaker. The 2022 season note is his.

Winter stayed warm and dry until rain and cooler weather arrived late in March. Spring was mild. Summer brought cool mornings and warmer afternoons, and the berries came in smaller, with flavor and acidity.
Each variety was handled for its block: optical sorting, a cold soak, gentle pumpovers, and malolactic fermentation in barrel.
The blend then spent 20 months in French oak, 60 percent of it new.
A Bordeaux tribute since 1990
Tapestry Reserve began as Beaulieu's nod to classic Bordeaux blends and Clarets.

Beaulieu has made Tapestry Reserve since 1990, as a tribute to the winery's French heritage.
The blocks are chosen for place in the fruit and a round, approachable tannin, kept as one Napa blend.
Prime rib, then a Yorkshire pudding
The roast has the richness for cassis and oak. The pudding takes the meat juices and the toast in the wine.
Prime rib for the Cabernet, and Yorkshire pudding beside the roast. Beaulieu also pours this with grilled ribeye, roast leg of lamb, braised short ribs, and porcini mushroom risotto.
Twenty months in French oak supports a brief decant. After that, a short rest in the glass is enough.
Roasted prime rib
Serious Eats cooks the roast low and slow, rests it, then finishes with a hot blast for the crust.
Why it works: Beef and a browned crust meet blackberry, cassis, and the nutty oak.

Yorkshire pudding
Kenji's pudding is an egg-and-flour batter baked in hot beef drippings until it rises and crisps.
Why it works: The crisp cup and the drippings pick up the toast and give the oak something savory to lean on.
