A hundred-year Riserva at a twenty-eight-dollar ask
This is not a generic Chianti. It is the Antinori family's Riserva, built to age, priced under the $40 SRP for this promotion.

The house
Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Florentine Winemakers' Guild in 1385. Twenty-six generations later the family still bottles in Chianti Classico.
The wine
Sangiovese fermented in steel, complementary lots in used barrique, then a year in large oak. Bottling began July 2024. Alcohol 14%.
The proof

Fruit first, then tobacco and tea
The house writes blackberry, medlar jam, raspberry jelly, tobacco, licorice, candied lemon, and cocoa, then a long finish of rose petal and black tea.

A hot, dry year through July, then rain in August. Vines self-regulated. Harvest ran from late September into the second week of October. The 2022 is generous, not heavy.
Ruby. Blackberry, raspberry jelly, tobacco, licorice, candied lemon peel, and cocoa powder.
Silky, savory tannins. Full attack, then a vertical, long finish. 14% ABV.
Rose petal and black tea. Serve near 60 F. Open 20 minutes ahead.
Steel for Sangiovese, oak for the blend
The Riserva is built the Antinori way: controlled extraction, then time in large wood.

Cellar: Destemmed fruit, steel fermentation at 28 to 30 C, 10 to 14 days on skins with gentle pump-over.
Oak: Sangiovese malo in steel. Complementary lots in second- and third-fill barriques. Blend aged mainly in large cask through spring 2024.
Intent: A delicate and decisive Riserva, not a Super Tuscan speech. Bottling started July 2024.
From 1928 to Bargino
The name is almost a century old. The cellar in the hill is from 2012.

Niccolo Antinori created Villa Antinori in 1928 as a Chianti Classico meant to evolve in bottle. The Riserva is that idea, rewritten for the modern house.
In 2012 the family opened Antinori nel Chianti Classico at Bargino, built into the hill with local materials, and later ranked among the World's Best Vineyards.
Twenty-six generations in the guild, one Riserva, twenty-eight dollars today.
Ragu on the pasta, steak on the board
Sangiovese acidity and silky tannin want tomato, fat, and a hard sear, not a timid plate.
Two plates. One bowl of pappardelle with meat ragu. One pan-seared steak. Both can take the Riserva.
Pull the cork 20 minutes ahead. Serve near 60 F in a Chianti glass.
Spaghetti Bolognese
Nagi's slow ragu, wide pasta, parmesan. Tomato and fat meet Sangiovese acidity.
Why it works: Tomato brightness and beef fat match the wine's fruit and tannin without adding oak.

Pan-seared steak
Kenji's hard sear, rosy center, coarse salt. A Tuscan table without the restaurant markup.
Why it works: Char and fat soften the Riserva's frame while the acidity cuts the crust.
