The Vintage2022 in Napa Valley

After a mild spring, Labor Day heat accelerated the 2022 Napa harvest, while cool nights helped preserve balance. Lower yields concentrated fruit, giving the region's reds deep color, firm structure and luxurious tannins.

Fruit + Aroma

Dark currant and black plum lead, with tobacco leaf and cocoa moving through the background.

Texture + Structure

Full-bodied and pillowy in feel, with polished tannin and loamy earth giving the fruit a savory frame.

Finish + Service

Chocolate and tobacco linger. Serve at 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and decant for about 60 minutes.

Cellar WindowWhat Changes With Time
Now to 2028Fruit Forward

Dark fruit and oak polish lead; an hour of air helps the savory detail emerge.

2029 to 2031More Integration

Expect the currant core to knit more closely with tobacco, earth and cocoa.

2032 to 2035Savory Maturity

The balance should shift toward secondary earth and tobacco while the fruit grows quieter.

Oenology / Winemaking

Small lots, four sites, measured oak

The cellar work is designed to polish Cabernet without erasing where it grew.

Site first: This 2022 combines Revana Estate, Edcora, Shifflett Ranch and Panek fruit from St. Helena, Oak Knoll and Atlas Peak, building layers of ripeness, lift and savory structure.

Small lots: The fruit was hand-picked, hand-sorted and whole-berry fermented in micro-fermentation batches. That detailed handling helps preserve aromatic definition while giving the winemaker precise control over extraction.

Oak as polish: Twenty months in French oak, split evenly between new and neutral barrels, rounds the full-bodied frame without turning the wine into a simple oak statement.

History / Estate

From St. Helena ground to a four-site Napa blend

Revana's story begins with a small estate parcel and expands through carefully chosen Napa vineyard partners.

Editorial Visualization • Napa Vineyard History
Sunlit Napa vineyard rows presented as an editorial visualization

In 1997, Dr. Madaiah Revana acquired two St. Helena parcels and partnered with vineyard manager Jim Barbour. They planted 8.2 acres in 1998, using Cabernet cuttings from Grace Family on deep, well-drained alluvial soils.

By 2000, a winery designed with Howard Backen had begun to take shape, while Heidi Barrett guided the early winemaking. The narrow northern Napa Valley setting married warm afternoons to cooling nights and gave Cabernet a measured, even ripening season.

Thomas Rivers Brown joined in 2011 and brought a restrained, site-led approach. For this 2022 bottling, four vineyard sources across St. Helena, Oak Knoll and Atlas Peak translate that estate discipline into layered fruit, savory depth and polished structure.

Gastronomy / Food Pairing

Put the tannin to work

Protein, slow-cooked richness and earthy umami give this Cabernet structure something delicious to hold.

At The Table • Pairing In Action

Choose the braise when you want depth and comfort, or the mushroom polenta when you want the wine's savory side to lead.

Serve + Decant

Serve at 60 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit after about 60 minutes in a decanter. Use broad Cabernet stems and pour beside the food rather than ahead of it.

Red-Wine-Braised Beef Short Ribs

Slow-braised beef and mashed potatoes meet the wine at its richest point without asking for a complicated table.

Why it works: Protein and fat soften Cabernet tannin, while the braise connects dark fruit and tobacco tones to caramelized, wine-darkened sauce.

Creamy Parmesan polenta with wild mushrooms, food-only editorial visualization

Creamy Parmesan Polenta with Wild Mushrooms

Silky polenta and browned mushrooms offer a deeply savory vegetarian route into the same bottle.

Why it works: Mushroom umami echoes loam and tobacco, while Parmesan and creamy polenta soften the tannin and keep the finish generous.

Final Recommendation

A Napa Cabernet with power and poise

Its balance of dark fruit, loamy savor and finely managed oak makes this a Cabernet that feels substantial without losing shape.

DinnerMeet richness with structure

Match its tannin with slow-braised beef, grilled ribeye or mushroom-rich sauces.

ShareKeep the table on one wine

The six-bottle allocation carries a planned gathering from first pour to last without changing the conversation.
