Why this bottle matters

A Beaune house at an eleven-dollar Chardonnay price

This is not Bourgogne Blanc. It is a Vin de France Chardonnay from south and west France, finished with a little native-soil fruit, from a house that has worked Beaune since 1750.

Tasting Profile

Nectarine, acacia, and a clean steel line

The house writes bright straw, a generous nose of nectarine and acacia, then exotic fruit and a long finale.

The 1743 house in Beaune
Front door of the Hotel du Conseiller du Roy, Bouchard Aine & Fils, Beaune
The Vintage2024 in the south of France

A mild winter, spring frost, then rain into early summer. Mildew cut yields. Harvest ran late August into September. The wine keeps freshness by design.

Fruit + Aroma

Straw gold. Nectarine, acacia, white blossom, peach, a hint of oak on some lots.

Texture + Structure

Round and balanced. Four months on lees. One quarter wood, three quarters steel.

Finish + Service

Long, clean fruit. Serve 52 to 55 F. Drink now.

Oenology / Winemaking

Night fruit, short lees, little oak

The house keeps this Chardonnay on fruit. Burgundy oak stories belong to other labels.

History / Estate

From silk traders to the Grand Conseiller

A Lyon silk family stopped in Beaune in 1750 and stayed.

Hospices de Beaune rooftops
Glazed tile rooftops of the Hospices de Beaune, five minutes from the house

The Bouchards came from Lyon as silk traders, fell for Beaune, and put their name on the wines in 1750.

Paul Bouchard (1814-1898), the Grand Conseiller, was mayor and counsellor of the Cote d'Or. He founded the Viticultural School of Beaune during phylloxera and made blending a house craft.

Heritage du Conseiller is that tribute: a French Chardonnay with a Beaune name, eleven dollars today.

Gastronomy / Food Pairing

Chicken in the pan, scallops in the butter

Fresh Chardonnay wants roast bird and sweet shellfish, not a heavy cream stew.

At The Table • Pairing In Action

Two plates. One roast chicken. One pan of scallops. Both can take nectarine and a clean acid line.

Serve + Decant

Chill to 52 to 55 F. No decant. Drink from a white-wine glass.

Pairing Recipe

Roast chicken

Nagi's golden bird, lemon, garlic, pan juices. The classic Chardonnay table.

Why it works: Herb butter and crisp skin match the round fruit without needing oak weight.

Pan-seared scallops, food pairing image

Pan-seared scallops

Kenji's brown crust, lemon butter. Shellfish and straw-gold Chardonnay, no restaurant wait.

Why it works: Sweet scallop and browned butter echo nectarine while acidity keeps the plate clean.
