Theodore Ernest Els is a South African professional golfer. A former World No. 1, he is known as "The Big Easy" due to his imposing physical stature along with his fluid golf swing. When not playing, Els has a golf course design business, a charitable foundation which supports golf among underprivileged youngsters in South Africa, and a highly regarded wine-making business.
His 2013 Merlot is soft and inviting with dried provencal herbs, cherries, plums and just a hint of dark bitter chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet,red fruits and further complexity from notes of cigar-box and wet earth. The fruity tannins are fine and somewhat delicate, adding a silky texture to a long spicy finish. Supple and fragrant now, it will age for 5 years or perhaps more.
Cooperage: Aged for 14 months - 300 litre French Oak barrels (20% new)
