Why this bottle matters

Village Meursault, two glasses, no grand-cru ticket

Maison Louis Latour has bottled Burgundy since 1797 and still makes its own barrels. The 2024 village Meursault is acacia, white peach, and lemon on marly limestone, in a 375ml you can finish with sea bass. This is the proof that Cote de Beaune Chardonnay does not need a premier-cru ask to be a real glass.

Acacia, peach, and a mineral line

Oenology / Winemaking

House barrels, fifteen percent new

Louis Latour is the only Burgundy house that ages its wines in barrels from its own cooperage. The 2024 Meursault is traditional barrel fermentation, complete malolactic, then 8 to 10 months in medium-toast French oak, 15 percent new. That is the house white-wine recipe: fruit first, oak as seasoning.

Vines average 25 years on marly limestone, 45 hectoliters a hectare, hand-picked. Meursault sits south of Volnay and Pommard and drinks sooner than Puligny next door. The 375ml is that village wine in two glasses.

Serve near 54 F. A white Burgundy glass. No long decant.

History / Estate

Eleven generations in Aloxe-Corton

The family were coopers first. Then they became one of Burgundy's great houses.

Cote de Beaune village, generated landscape
Cote de Beaune village and vineyard slopes at dusk, generated scene

Maison Louis Latour was founded in 1797. The Corton Grancey cuverie, bought in 1891, was built in 1834 as France's first purpose-built winery, five levels into the hill so the wine moves by gravity.

The house still toasts its own barrels from northern French oak. That cooperage is why a village Meursault from Latour tastes like Latour.

The 2024 375ml is two glasses of that lineage. Acacia, peach, a mineral finish, fifty-five dollars.

Gastronomy / Food Pairing

Sea bass first, then roast chicken

Village Meursault with peach and lemon wants grilled sea bass and a lemon roast chicken, not a heavy cream sauce.

At The Table • Pairing In Action

Two plates. One sea bass. One roast chicken. Both can take acacia, peach, and a mineral line.

Serve + Decant

Serve near 54 F. No decant. A white Burgundy glass.

Pairing Recipe
Grilled sea bass with fennel, lemon, and capers, food pairing image

Sea bass with fennel and lemon

Fennel, capers, grilled lemon. The fish Latour lists with this Meursault.

Why it works: Lemon and fennel echo citrus and minerality. The wine's round middle takes the butter in the pan.

Pairing Recipe
Lemon thyme roast chicken, food pairing image

Roast chicken

High-heat roast, lemon, thyme. The bird that village Meursault was built for.

Why it works: Roast fat and lemon match vanilla and peach while acidity cuts the skin.
